This year’s Met Gala theme was “Tailoring Black Style” a tribute to the sartorial traditions of the Black community. Some celebs nailed it, others… well, seemed to forget there was a the me at all. One thing’s for sure though: the corset was the undisputed star of the night on May 1st.
Take Rihanna, for example – she revealed her third pregnancy live on national TV, as only she could, through fashion. She rocked a gray Marc Jacobs corset that hugged her baby bump just right – classy, stylish, and 100% on point for the occasion.
Now, let’s talk about Kylie Jenner in Ferragamo. She sure brought the heat – classic Kylie, sexy and bold – but honestly? Kinda underwhelming. The sheer corset cinched her waist and showed off her curves, but the overall look didn’t really say anything. And worst of all, it totally ignored the theme. So yeah… a bit of a flop. Gotta admit, you let us down this time, Kylie.
Then there was the Jenna Ortega – Netflix’s “Wednesday” star – who pulled up in a dress made out of actual metallic rulers. At first, we were straight-up confused. Like, “What is going on here?” But once we found out the meaning behind it, we kinda loved it. Turns out, the metal rulers were a nod to tailoring tools – specifically the measuring tape, essential for taking precise measurements. Wild, right? You could even see numbers all over the outfit if you looked close enough.
Jenna wore a Balmain piece that was both edgy and elegant, but definitely not easy to move in – she looked lowkey uncomfortable walking up the stairs in some videos. But hey, beauty is pain, right? And this time, it was so worth it. Her look was a bold and brilliant shout-out to the world of tailoring.
